BOScom Announces New Release of BOSâNOVA Emulations

Version 7.0 Includes Enhanced Desktop Tools; Management Module Now Bundled in BOSâNOVA TCP/IP Connectivity Suite

San Antonio, Texas (COMMON Expo), May 2, 2004 - BOScom, Ltd. today announced the availability of version 7.0 of the award-winning BOSâNOVA emulations, included in the following BOScom TN5250e display and printing emulation solutions that run on Windows 9x, NT/2000, Me, and XP PCs: BOSâNOVA TCP/IP, a TCP/IP-based software suite including SQL-based data transfer; BOSâNOVA Client, an APPC-based software suite included SQL-based data transfer; and BOSâNOVA Plus, a software/hardware kit for Twinax connectivity, supplied with either PCI or ISA cards.
Since 1997 BOSâNOVA TCP/IP has been providing iSeries enterprises with easy-to-install, TN5250e display and printing emulation software for their LAN-connected PC users. In version 7.0, a Management Module has been bundled into the product, allowing enterprises to save valuable system resources by providing centralized management, without interruption or modification of existing workstations.
"Large enterprises have a high overhead with regard to installation and maintenance of PC workstations and applications," stated Martin Pladgeman, President of BOSaNOVA, Inc. "We realized that our customers could save money by eliminating the need to contract and dispatch a technician to install, upgrade, and maintain their emulations."
The BOSâNOVA TCP/IP Management Module allows a network administrator to handle a variety of tasks from a single location on the network, including installation, upgrade and configuration. Printer definitions and user/group permissions can be set up remotely. For workstations that have undergone reformatting or an operating system upgrade, all parameters (including macros, printer definitions, keyboard mapping, etc.) can be restored quickly and easily. The Management Module also supports customization based on customer requirements, such as user identification based on User Name, Computer Name, or workstation IP address.
The software included with the BOSâNOVA Plus emulation kit now supports the ½-size PCI cards that are compatible with the new small form factor PCs.
In addition, version 7.0 of all the BOSâNOVA emulations includes the following enhancements:
- Screen data can now be copied and pasted directly into a Microsoft Excel file (*.xls). This is particularly helpful in the case of copying and pasting mixed multi-language text and numbers as it circumvents automatic Windows text corrections.
- A mouse wheel can now be configured to scroll by page.
- The External Link feature, which allows users to open any document that is linked to a text string on an iSeries screen, has been extended and now includes a configuration module. The administrator can now determine which application will open the document, in cases where the document format is supported by more than one application. In addition, customizable toolbars specifically designed to launch various applications can be created with the new External Applications Toolbar Configurator.
