Indianapolis, Sunday, March 9, 2003 (COMMON Spring 2003) Release 5.0 of Jadvantage, BOScom's Java-based GUI display and printing emulation software that provides remote access to iSeries hosts, is being demonstrated at Booth 513 here at the COMMON Expo, announces Martin Pladgeman, President of BOSaNOVA, Inc.
"Jadvantage was first released in 1999 and BOScom continues to enhance it. With release 5.0 Jadvantage has been ported to Sun Microsystem's Java 2 Runtime environment (JVM 2), which adds support for new client platforms, including Macintosh, Linux and Netscape," explains Pladgeman.
Jadvantage provides TN5250e display and print emulation via a Web browser. No installation is required on the user side, saving precious system administration resources and relieving users -- whether employees, customers, or suppliers -- from having to deal with technical issues. They simply access the URL provided or click a link on the company's Web site. All configuration is done via the Server, which can reside directly on the iSeries host, or on a Windows NT/2000/XP Server. Any new version of software is automatically sent out to users; when the user logs on to the server, a background process checks and updates the client applets as needed, thus keeping the cost of ownership at a minimum. Full SCS printing is supported for optimum results, no matter what the client's printing environment.
"Jadvantage 5.0 features enhanced picture viewing. This versatile feature has many potential applications, from human resources to engineering and even security, because it allows any relevant graphic file on the server to be superimposed on the display session in a new window, based on screen text," he adds. No changes to the code are required, and the relevant graphics can be viewed by anyone with permission to access the display session. The existing applications are clarified by the addition of a visual element, increasing productivity, enhancing usability, and reducing errors on the part of the user in data entry situations.
Additional enhancements in release 5.0, based on integration of the latest version of JVM, include:
- Improved performance
- Customizable fonts for green screen displays (selected from installed Windows fixed fonts on the client workstation)
- Mapping of left and right control keys (Left=Perform Error Reset and Right: Perform Field Exit).
