  BOScom's High-End Thin Client Named To Search400.com
"2003 Products Of The Year"

BOSâNOVA LTC-600 Wins Silverin PC/Windows Connectivity Tools Category

Phoenix, AZ: February 3, 2004 -- The speedy and powerful BOSâNOVA LTC-600 -- BOScom's high-end Linux-based thin client -- won the Silver award in the PC/Windows Connectivity Tools category of the Search400.com "2003 Products of the Year".

Products announced and shipped between September 30, 2002 and October 1, 2003 were eligible. Judging was completed by a panel of industry experts (including the editors of TechTarget's Search400.com), a select group of users, and independent industry analysts, with input from Search400.com members. Criteria included: innovation, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value. Three winners (Gold, Silver, Bronze) were selected in each category. The BOSâNOVA LTC-600 was the highest scoring thin client in the PC/Windows Connectivity Tools category.

In presenting the Silver award to the BOSâNOVA LTC-600, the editors of TechTarget's Search400.com wrote: "Often, companies want users to be able to access data on the iSeries, but they don't want to manage a fleet of PCs -- especially if those PCs are in remote locations. Instead, they turn to thin clients. And according to our judges, BOScom's BOSâNOVA LTC-600, the Silver Award winner in our PC/Windows connectivity category, is one of the best from 2003."

The Search400.com editors note three important strengths of the BOSâNOVA LTC-600:

  • Cost-effective access to Windows desktop applications: "The BOSâNOVA LTC-600 thin client provides cost-effective access to Windows desktop applications residing on a Microsoft Windows NT/2000 Terminal Server or Citrix Server. It includes embedded TN5250e- and TN3270e-based terminal emulation software for connection to IBM iSeries and zSeries systems, an Internet browser with JVM and Macromedia Flash support, and Adobe Acrobat Reader for accurate viewing of PDF files. The BOSâNOVA LTC-600 also features support for POP3 e-mail, wireless connectivity and Telnet with SSH, VT100 and Wyse 60 emulations."

  • Reduced CPU overhead due to Linux thin client: "The innovation in its thin-client solution, however, is that it is based on the Linux operating system. 'This is an interesting product,' one judge says. 'The idea of "serving" 5250 connectivity over a Linux thin client seems a great way of reducing PC overhead.' "

  • Double the industry-standard performance: "The BOSâNOVA LTC-600's performance is also impressive. With its 533-MHz VIA Eden processor, it practically doubles the industry-standard 300-MHz speed to provide top performance, even when browsing the Web. That is important in a thin-client environment where, unlike in a Windows environment, Web pages aren't cached and need to be reloaded each time the user access a Web page over the LAN."
